The Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy urging for appointment of Information Commissioners, formulation of Lokayukta Rules and provisions for protection of RTI activists.
“Over 12,000 cases are pending for disposal. Cases filed in 2016 are being listed now for hearing in 2020. The delay has not only frustrated appellants but also encouraged the erring PIOs. Kindly, appoint at least two Information Commissioners against vacant posts soon,” the memorandum read.
“Lokayukta Rules are required for effective implementation of the Odisha Lokayukta Act. We, thus, want enactment of Lokayukta Rules,” wrote convenor Pradip Pradhan.
He too demanded establishment of an RTI Cell and a provision of protection for RTI activists as assaults on them is rising day by day.
