The Freethought Party of India in association with the AMOFOI celebrated the 74th “UN Day” with AMOFOI president Manas Jena in the chair.
While welcoming the guests and giving a brief introduction about the establishment of the United Nations (UN) on October 24, 1945, FPI general secretary B Ramchandra CST Voltaire made it clear that the UN is no longer adequate at all to meet the military challenges held out to mankind by certain expansionistic nations like Russia and China.
Voltaire said, “Craze for power has led vainglorious leader Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, to attack Ukraine without any provocation. The war that he has imposed on Ukraine since February 24 has already caused heart-rending devastation there. Of late, Puttin has threatened the whole world of using nuclear weapons to terrorise the US, the European Union, Australia and other counties, supplying military assistance to the Ukrainian people and their Government. So the whole world is on the verge of a nuclear holocaust.”
Chief speaker Prof Dhaneswar Sahoo said extreme nationalism as practiced by North Korea, Russia and China etc is standing in the way of world peace. The UN Security Council is getting paralysed because of the veto power enjoyed by Russia, China, US, UK and France and is not in a position to maintain international peace and security. So, a world Government should be ushered in as quickly as possible.”
Manas Jena said India and likeminded countries must lead in creating the world Government to check Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China. MS Yadav of BSP and labour leader Banshidhar Parida among others spoke.
