A 23-year-old youth was arrested for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl for the past 8 months in Pratap Nagar under Ratibad police station area on Saturday.
Police said the victim was sexually assaulted by the accused, identified as Shashikant Verma, who is her neighbour. The accused sexually exploited the victim by luring her of marriage but later refused from marriage.
The victim is a resident of Pratap Nagar and was acquainted with the accused.
In a complaint the victim said she came into contact with the accused in 2014 when the accused used to visit the house which was under construction. The two became friends and the victim developed relationship with the accused. The accused assured her he would marry and for the past few months he resorted to excuses when the victim proposed for marriage. Dejected over the attitude victim lodged a complaint with the Ratibad police.
Based on the complaint the police registered a case under Section 363, 366, 376,294,323 and 506 of the IPC and Section 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act -2012 and started investigation into the matter.
During the investigation police found that the accused worked for a private company. The crime record of the accused would be searched and employees of the company where the accused used to work would be questioned in the further investigation.
