A 22-year-old youth drowned while fishing at Birah Dam, on Wednesday. According to police sources, when Anil Mehar of Shyampur village did not return for a long time after going for fishing, the family started searching for him.
When they reached the spot along with locals, they found his belongings but failed to find him. Police and divers were informed to start searching for the victim in the dam.
Once the rescue operation started, they found that the victim has drowned. The body was fished out and later sent for post mortem. Police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC and have started further investigation. The circumstantial evidence suggests that Mehar might have just drowned but result of the post mortem report will confirm things further. Family members claimed that he knew how to swim so death due to drowning raises questions. They are claiming that he left home alone but somebody might have joined him mid-way.
