Youth Cong activists stage protest, cane-charged

The police cane-charged the activists of Youth Congress, who were demonstrating in front of Home Minister Babulal Gaur’s house demanding CBI probe in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination (MPPRB) scam.

Around half a dozen activists were injured in the incident. They also demanded immediate arrests of former Technical Education Minister laxmikant Sharma and mining baron Sudhir Sharma, whose names figured in the scam.

In pre-planned manner, the Youth Congress activists led by Sanjay Verma reached the residence of Gaur from State Congress office. They shouted slogans against laxmikant Sharma and Sudhir Sharma, besides Babulal Gaur.

They also carried placards criticising the State  Government for hushing up the MPPEB scam by not declaring CBI probe in the multi crore fraud.

The police had already erected barricades near the residence of Gaur, and they had a tough time in dealing with the agitating Youth Congress workers. As soon as the activists attempted to cross the barricades, the police resorted to cane-charge.

To disperse the crowd, the cops used force and within minutes, the whole area was vacated.  The police later arrested all the activists and took them to the Central jail. After some time, local Congress leader Govind Goyal, along with his supporters reached the TT Nagar police station and attempted to stage sit-in but the cops again used force to disperse the crowd.

This was the first agitation by Congress organization, after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi visited the State capital. He had told the leaders that Congress workers should be ready to agitate and get cane-charged.

Youth Congress leader Manoj Shukla has criticized the action of police stating that the State Government is acting like dictator.

Earlier too, the State government has cane-charged the Youth Congress activists. It is out to suppress any kind of opposition against the government, he added.
