World Radio Day celebrated

Community Radio Stations played an important role during the coronavirus pandemic by being instrumental in communicating with people through broadcasting and narrowcasting. “They in fact mitigated the myth of Covid-19 misconception among the minds of people,” said Rajya Sabha member Amar Patnaik, who was addressing a gathering of Community Radio practitioners from across the State on the World Radio Day on Saturday.

The Community Radio Association of Odisha (CRAO) organised a day-long meeting of radio stations to mark the occasion.

In her address, UNICEF State Chief Dr Monika Nielsen appreciated the genuine efforts of community radios in addressing grassroots issues like nutrition, child marriage and trafficking, violence against women, dispelling dogmas, etc. She praised the UNICEF’s partnership with community radios for its far-reaching impact at the grassroots level.

The community radio broadcasters highlighted their best practices through their presentations on Covid-19. Various radio formats like songs, drama and discussion formed the USP of community radios in reaching the unreached.
