Workshop to explore wind energy options in MP

Published on:

Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA) in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) coordinated a workshop in Bhopal. This workshop provided a platform for representatives of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to discuss the outlook for the wind power sector in the State of Madhya Pradesh and define a roadmap for the RE sector.

Those remained present during the workshop were Madhusudan Khemka, Chairman, IWTMA and Managing Director, Regen Powertech, Ramesh Kymal, Chairman Cll RE Council GBC and Managing Director, Gamesa Renewable Pvt ltd, DV Giri, Secretary General, IWTMA.

This event is the second in the series of such interactive discussions being planned by IWTMA in the high wind power capacity states of Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka culminating with a consolidated seminar at a National level.

Speaking about the Wind Sector in Madhya Pradesh, Madhusudan Khemka, Chairman IWTMA and MD Regen Powertech said that Madhya Pradesh has a potential of 10,500 MW as estimated by the National Institute of Wind Energy at 100 meter hub height and so far only 1,005 MW have been installed.

“We greatly appreciate the proactive policies and efforts of the Government of Madhya Pradesh for encouraging Wind Power. We have requested the Government to give visibility for tariff beyond March 2016 to facilitate ongoing investment plans of developers,” he added.

In this context, the recently issued darft paper by the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (MPERC), which has proposed to reduce the tariff substantially, is a big concern for the wind industry.

Khemka further said, “We are requesting the Government of Madhya Pradesh for ease in doing business by allotment of revenue land is without any restriction as development of land by Wind Resource Assessment and Infrastructure is a long process which is undertaken by the OEMs.”

He further requested the Government to facilitate Interstate Sale after meeting the RPO obligation and request the Government to take it up with the Center for waiving central transmission utility (CTU) charges as done in the case of Solar and rationalize State transmission utility (STU) charges to attract investment. M/s Suzlon and Inox have firm plans to set up manufacturing facility and further investment is expected from OEMs and Component Manufacturers with the robust policy of the Government.
