To give a safe environment to daughters, it is necessary that we teach and tell our sons. Parents should talk with their sons about their behaviour outside. Their attitude towards female colleagues and classmates should be the same as they have female members in their family,” said Member of Juvenile Justice Board, Bhopal and advocate Pratibha Pandey here on Tuesday.

She was addressing a workshop on 'Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013 in Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication. University Vice Chancellor Prof KG Suresh chaired the workshop.

Pandey said, the act is an outcome of discussion on Bhanwari Devi case of Rajasthan. Pandey pointed out that a woman is entitled to get dignity and respect by birth and why there should be special laws for them. We cannot ensure dignity and respect by laws. Society will have to change its mindset.

She detailed the provisions of the Act. She said, media students should be aware of provision 16 of the Act that information related with harassment complaints can not be disclosed publicly during the hearing.

Vice Chancellor Prof KG Suresh said there is a need to create awareness on laws related with women. Serious crimes against women start with small incidents which generally people ignore. This is not an issue related with female students. Male students should also understand it. Students of Makhanlal Chaturvedi Journalism University should show the ideal approach on the issues related with female. Media should create awareness in the society on the laws related with women. Head of New Media Technology Department, Prof P Sasikala conducted the online workshop. Registrar Prof Avinash Bajpai proposed the vote of thanks.

Internal Complaint Committee for prevention of sexual harassment at workplace was reconstituted in the university. The committee includes chairperson Prof P Sasikala, Urvashi Parmar, Rahul Khadia, Vivek Savarikar, Tripti Vajpayee (all members).
