A 38-year old married woman was set ablaze by her husband at Mazdoor Nagar on Wednesday. Around 4 am on Wednesday the victim Nusrat was set ablaze by her husband Anees, the police said.
The victim was rushed to Hamidia Hospital where she was admitted at the burns ward. Police were informed and after preliminary investigation a case of attempt to murder was registered against the accused husband. In the initial investigation it was found that the accused used to bicker a lot with the victim.
On Tuesday, the victim while on her way back to home lost around Rs 3,000 which were withdrawn from bank. When the victim told the incident to her husband he refused to accept that the victim lost the money and suspected that the victim is lying. He started to abuse her and had a heated argument with her. later in the wee hours the accused set the victim ablaze after pouring petrol on her and escaped the house.
The neighbours after hearing the pleas of help rushed to her rescue and later she was taken to hospital. Police said that the victim has sustained around 60 per cent burns and her condition is critical. The chances of her survival are less. The errant husband went missing after the incident and is still missing. The police have registered a case under IPC Section 307 and have started searching the miscreants.
