A 35-year-old married woman was set ablaze at Shanti Nagar allegedly by a woman and her mother after she refused to divorce her husband. A case was registered after victim lodged complaint on Saturday.
Police said that the victim Shabnam was married to Saleem and later a woman Ayesha claimed to be Saleem’s husband came to the house along with her mother and after failing to persuade her for divorce set her ablaze.
The husband of the victim Saleem married Ayesha of Bhanpur and for the past few months Ayesha and her mother were pressurising the victim to divorce Saleem so that Ayesha could live with Saleem. But the victim refused and frustrated with the refusal the two set her ablaze and escaped the spot.
Based on Shabnam’s statement police have registered attempt to murder case against Ayesha and her mother
A complaint was lodged by the victim with the police stating that on December 4 Ayesha and her mother Waseem Bi came to her house and started to abuse and fight and when she tried to escape she slipped and fell after which the two set her ablaze and escaped the spot. Her husband on her returned pacified fire and took her to Hamidia hospital.
The condition of the victim is reported critical and is undergoing treatment at Hamidia hospital. The police have registered a case under section 307 and 34 of the IPC and have started further investigation.During the investigation police have arrest Ayesha while her mother remains absconding and search for the absconding accused has been intensified.
