Woman loses purse to thief, halts train for 20 minutes

A woman passenger Renuka stopped the Qutub Express from moving for nearly 20 minutes at Gwalior railway station on Monday night after a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE), who was allegedly drunk, behaved irresponsibly after she reported to him that her purse was stolen.

The woman passenger was on her way to Gwalior from Nizamuddin, when her purse was stolen on the train near Agra Cantonment station, railway sources said here on Tuesday.

After she reported the matter to the TTE, he told her that he could not do anything about it. When the train reached Gwalior, Renuka made it an issue and threatened that if no action is taken in the matter, she would commit suicide by jumping before the train.

Renuka said, “When I reported the TTE that my purse is missing, he replied that he could not do anything in the issue and that it is my own responsibility to guard my belongings while travelling.”

She also complained that the TTE was drunk and instead of helping her to find her purse was asking to show ticket that was in the purse. “I showed him my ticket on my cell phone but he did not approve it and misbehaved with me,” she added.

later, the police took the TTE for medical examination and also filed a report about the theft of her purse, delaying the train by nearly 20 minutes, the police said. Action would be taken against the TTE after the medical report is out, railway sources said.
