A 28-year-old married woman died and three others sustained injuries in an acid attack in Morena district on Sunday.

The woman was at her parents' house at Porsa town in the district, about 50 kilometers from the district headquarters, when the accused Yogendra Singh Tomar reached there in the wee hours with a bottle of acid, knocked the door, entered the house and poured the acid over the victim.

The victim sustained serious injuries on her chest. When her cousins and grandmother offered resistance, the accused threw acid on them too. The victim and the injured were rushed to the district hospital Morena where she died in the morning.

"As per initial investigation so far the accused had an affair with the deceased. Since she was not willing to live with him, he attacked her with acid in a fit of rage. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the accused," said city superintendent of police (CSP) Gajendra Singh Kanwar talking to media persons.

According to police, the woman was married to Sanju Gupta and had two children. When her husband came to know about her affair with Yogendra Singh Tomar who is also a married person, he deserted her more than a year back whereupon she started living at her parents' house at Porsa. Before moving to her parents place, she reportedly stayed with Tomar for quite some time.

After that she went to her maternal uncle's place in Agra district recently. The accused talked to her on phone and asked her to come back to resolve the issue. Thereafter, she returned to Porsa a couple of days back.
