A 25-year-old woman was arrested by Bilkharia police on Friday on charge of abetting suicide attempt by a 14-year-old girl at Kokta area on December 24. The girl tried to commit suicide by setting herself ablaze after she was allegedly forced to marry by her neighbour at Kokta under Bilkharia police station area on Friday.
Police said the girl Kavita Irpache set herself ablaze on December 24 and was admitted to Hamidia hospital in critical condition. The girl was pressurised by her neighbour Kavita Ahirwar to marry a youth of her wish, police added. On December 23, Ahirwar asked the girl to visit her house and when she reached there a youth was present at her house. Ahirwar told that the youth liked Irpache and wanted to marry her but Irpache refused and returned home.
On Wednesday the victim informed her mother regarding the threat and pressure by her neighbour and later she attempted to commit suicide. Meanwhile, doctors at Hamidia hospital said Irpache has sustained around 90 per cent burns and her chances of survival were bleak. Based on the statements of the victim the police have registered a case under Section 309 of the IPC and have started further investigation. The youth who was interested in marrying the victim went missing after the incident. Police started search for the accused youth.
