Four persons, including a woman, have been arrested on the charge of their alleged involvement in the murder of a 30-year-old man that took place in January, 2012.

The four accused have been identified as Mahendra Malviya (28), Sunil Valmiki (24), Vikram alias Vicky Malviya (21) and Phoolwati Mehra (35). According to Gandhi Nagar police, the main accused Mahendra Malviya had been living in disguise near a town of Amritsar in Punjab State as a Sevadar since the incident took place to evade arrest. However, during the investigation, police succeeded in arresting him, said Superintendent of Police Bhopal (North) Arvind Saxena while talking to mediapersons here on Sunday.

The police officer said the wife of the deceased, Himmat Singh, and main accused, Mahendra, were in relationship which was the reason behind the murder. The victim was aware of the illicit relationship and used to remain annoyed over the issue. Vicky and Phoolwati used to help him by providing money, while Sunil had helped Mahendra in killing of Himmat.

Notably, on January 4, 2012 Himmat Singh was found murdered at his residence. During investigation, it was found that Mahendra used to visit victim’s house frequently and before he could be contacted, he became untraceable. For the last two years, he remained missing but during the investigation police found that Mahendra’s cousin Vicky used to help him by depositing money in his account.

The accused was traced in Jagrao town, around 40 km away from Amritsar, where he was living with the identity of Onkaar Jeet Singh. He was working in Nanaksar Gurudwara. When the accused remained absconding he learnt Punjabi and started to serve as Sevadar to evade arrest.
