Woman accuses live-in partner of repeated rape over two years

A 30-year-old married woman has accused her live-in partner of repeatedly raping her over the past two and a half years, leading to the registration of an FIR against the accused by Jahangirabad police. The case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by individuals in exploitative relationships.

The victim, a housewife, was previously living with her husband, a driver. The accused, Sharif Qureshi, also a driver and a friend of her husband, was a frequent visitor to their home. Over time, the woman reportedly developed a closer relationship with Qureshi.

According to the complaint lodged with the police, the first alleged incident of rape occurred on May 6, 2022. Qureshi reportedly sexually assaulted her in her own house when her husband was absent. Following this, he allegedly lured her with promises of marriage, convincing her to leave her husband.

The woman subsequently moved in with Qureshi into a rented room in the Gautam Nagar area. However, instead of fulfilling his promise of marriage, he allegedly continued to sexually assault her. She informed the police that whenever she broached the topic of marriage, Qureshi would physically assault her and threaten to kill her.

The situation escalated when, upon her persistent demands for marriage, Qureshi allegedly evicted her from the house.

She then sought legal recourse, approaching the police. After an initial investigation into her complaint, Gautam Nagar police registered a zero FIR on Saturday. The case was later transferred to Jahangirabad police station, where the official FIR was subsequently registered.

TI Ashutosh Upadhyay confirmed that police are actively searching for the accused, who is currently absconding. Further investigations are underway to gather evidence and ensure justice for the victim.
