With 40 cr customers, it is difficult to serve safely and securely through all channels: SBI

CS Setty, MD (Retail & Digital Banking) said that with over 40 crore of customers it is difficult to serve safely and securely through all channels. Customers are responsible for fraud committed as they share personal bank accounts details, he added.

While talking to media persons, here on Saturday, Shetty said, "Being the bank with the largest customer base of digital banking with the help of cybercrime and police safety measures are enhanced to meet the increasing number of fraud cases with the bank."

To retract money from the bank account of fraudsters is not possible as bank accounts are with different banks and conditions are different, still in some cases money is safeguarded, he added.

Replying to a query, Setty said that there is provision of insuring the accounts but with it comes with conditions and could not be generalised for each and every product which is targeted by the cyber criminals.

The expansion of systems and security is an ongoing process and maintaining continuity in services is tough.

Setty told that a helpline number for customers who face cyber fraud has been in operation and appealed to the media and other partners to publicize the same.

In the rural area the same means of spreading awareness are used which are used in urban areas, said Setty answering a question on spreading digital banking literacy.
