The five-day winter session of the State assembly beginning here on Monday is likely to be a stormy with the main Opposition Congress deciding to corner the Government over different issues, including demonetization and incidents of communal violence in the State.

Acting leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Bala Bachchan while talking to The Pioneer said, “We are going to vehemently raise the demonetization issue which has hit the commoners and farmers hard. Farmers and commoners are living in penury due to shortage of currency and livelihood.”

Bachchan further said they are also going to grill the State Government over incidents of communal violence. “Properties and belongings of the minority community had been torched in such acts of communal violence that have been reported from different parts of the State recently,” Bachchan alleged.

“We want the Government should instill confidence in the minority community and dispel the atmosphere of fear that is lingering over the State,” he said. “Our legislators are going to firmly raise the issue of massive corruption in the conduction of the month-long Simhastha-Kumbh mela in Ujjain last year,” said Bachchan, who is going to lead his party in the Assembly due to the demise of Satyadev Katare.

Bachchan said meeting of the Congress legislative Party (ClP) would take place on Monday in Bhopal in that legislators would submit their local issues that would also be included the issues to be raised during the winter session.

“The session is too short as lots of hot issues need to be discussed; hence we are demanding that the duration of winter session should be extended. I have already written letters to the Governor, Chief Minister and legislative affairs minister and assembly secretariat in this regard, but till date there is no response from the Government over it,” Bachchan said.
