A man set afire his wife alleging that she was unable to conceive even aftr 14 years of marriage. The victim is 31-year-old and the incident was reported at Hinotia village under Ashoka Garden police station area on Wednesday.
The woman is undergoing treatment at Hamidia Hospital, where her condition is reportedly critical. According to the police, Ramshree Bai was set ablaze by her husband Kalyan Singh after a fight on Wednesday evening. The victim was admitted to Hamidia hospital with 80 per cent burn injuries.
The incident took place after Kalyan returned from work and started to fight with his wife and after brutally beating her, Kalyan set her ablaze and fled away from the spot. The nieghbours, who heard victim’s cries for help, rushed to her rescue and took her to Hamidia hospital.
The victim sustained third degree burns and is reportedly critical. Doctors told that the chance of survival of the victim is bleak and she has been kept under observation. During the investigation, it was found that the victim was not able to conceive even 14 years after marriage and there were frequent fights between the couple over this problem.
The accused works as an electrician and used to brutally beat his wife. Neighbours claimed that the couple used to fight over the issue frequently, but on Wednesday, the accused went extreme and tried to kill his wife. The police have registered a case under section 307 of the IPC and have started further investigation. Police have started searching for the miscreant and told that he would be nabbed soon. Criminal record of the accused would be searched.
