Why Upreet's statement was not recorded, questions Cong

Published on:

Madhya Pradesh Congress chief spokesperson KK Mishra on Saturday demanded that the statement of Yogesh Upreet, accused in the Dental and Medical Admission Test (DMAT) irregularity, be recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

In a statement issued here, Mishra said Madhya Pradesh police’s Special Task Force took Upreet on remand but did not record his statements under Section 164. The section provides for recording of statements and confessions before a magistrate.

He said recording of Upreet’s statement was all the more important in the wake of the Supreme Court’s comment that the DMAT scam could be bigger than the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or Vyapam scam.
