Although equipped with the best facilities, the public transport run by BCCl in the city is unable to draw the passengers’ attention.
Notably, the public transport services started under JNNURM to provide the citizens with the best public transport facilities is facing losses. Operated by BCCl the low floor busses My Bus and Purple even well equipped with best of the facilities are not drawing attention of the citizens.
The public relation officer of BCCl Sanjay Soni while talking to The Pioneer about the issue said that the main problem is caused by unregistered public transports like Tata Magic and mini busses running in the city. These unregistered transport facilities move on low quality fuel which is bad for the environment and is not that safe as compared to BCCl buses, he added.
Soni complains that dipping number of passengers travelling in buses is another major reason of losses for the operators. He says that BCCl buses offer better facilities and also take less time as compared to unregistered public transport.
Notably, BCCl is running 225 buses across the city and nearby areas including eight air conditioned buses. Also the public transport facilities by JNNURM began with the idea of reducing pollution and conserving the fuel from private transports in the city. Also it began to motivate the citizens to make maximum use of public transport, tohelp in traffic management in the city. Sanjay Soni also informs that 12 more air conditioned buses will soon be introduced by JNNURM. Also many big projects are in the pipeline to reduce the time connecting the outer areas to the main city.
