The in-charge of wheat procurement centre at Misrod was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 by the Special Police Establishment (SPE) of the lokayukta on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police of lokayukta Siddharth Choudhary said that Mukesh Kumar Sen was trapped by lokayukta sleuths on Wednesday while accepting Rs 2000 for providing receipt of wheat provided by farmer Ajay Patidar. On April 21, Ajay Patidar had lodged a complaint with the lokayukta police regarding the demand of bribe by Sen and acting on the complaint, a team was formed to nab the accused red-handed. Sen was caught  accepting the bribe.

Providing details of the wrong practices at the procurement centre, SP Choudhary said that Patidar was harassed by the accused for providing receipt of the wheat after procurement which is a confirmation that the farmer has provided the wheat. The victim was asked to pay Rs 2000 for providing a receipt of 157 wheat sacks as without the receipt from the procurement centre the victim would not receive the money for his wheat.

As per the procedure, after wheat is procured at the wheat procurement centre and receipt for the same is issued, the money for the wheat is transferred to the bank account of the farmer. Issuing receipt is important for the procedure.A case under section 7 and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered by the SPE.
