What's status of crop insurance, Cong asks CM

Published on:

State Congress has asked Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to tell the State about the status of crop insurance announced by him and demanded to make it clear whether or not the State Government would get done the Rs12,000 crore crop insurance in the State.

Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee chief spokesman KK Mishra in a statement here on Friday

said, “Chouhan led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government of the State to announce that it has decided to get done the crop

insurance to the tune of Rs12,000 crore in the interest of farmers of the State and for that the State Government would pay Rs5 crores per annum as premium for that.”

Mishra further said, “Now, the farmers and the people of the State want to know the status of that crop insurance.”

Mishra said, though the Chief Minister has made

over eight thousand announcements in his tenure of about eight years, but the issue of crop insurance has not been taken as an important decision of the State Government.

In the recent past, confusion was created by Chouhan over the Prime Minister, not giving him time for raising the issue of farmers, who

were hit by hailstorm and unseasoned excessive rains; suicides by farmers in the State and the funds

reserved for farmers, provided by the State Government put up a big question mark over Chouhan’s saying and doing, he added.

He said that the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government of the Centre provide

special package of Rs200 crores

for the hailstorm-hit

farmers of the State, Rs224 crores for disaster management and Rs147.26 crores for assistance to farmers in the year 2011-12, summing up to Rs571.26 crores.

Similarly, this year, the UPA Government has provided Rs 495 crores for hailstorm hit farmers of the State,

he added.

He said that the Election Commission has also granted conditional permission

for distribution of assistance to the farmers, hence the

State Government should clarify that how much relief has been distributed to the farmers till now.
