WCR identifies Bina-Kota route for 2x25 kv traction system upgradation

Published on:

Indian Railways has taken a total of 2140 route kms for upgradation of 2x25 kV traction system in all Zonal Railways for upgradation of network track system, rolling stock etc.

Under the same scheme, a total of 303 route kms of Bina-Kota have been identified for upgradation of 2x25 KV traction system in West Central Railway.

It is known that at present 2G 25KV traction system is available on Bina-Katni route over 250 kms. As a result of which it has proved to be very efficient in operating the goods trains on the busiest routes due to which WCR has many times topped the Indian Railways in average speed of freight trains.

Similarly, on 545 km Nagda-Kota-Mathura route, the work of upgradation of 2x25 KV traction system is being done in a phased manner at a rapid pace. Therefore, availability of 2X25KV traction system over about 1100 km over WCR will increase freight loading as well as increase in freight train movement.

2x25 kV traction system means transmission at 50 kV and using 25 kV voltage system. Possible feed extension from one system to another and smooth running of locomotive from 1X25KV to 2X25KV traction system. The transmission of this 2x25kv traction system will bring many benefits.

Better voltage regulation and less transmission line loss, traction substation spacing will increase, effective for reducing voltage imbalance on transmission network, better voltage regulation even at high load current, the 2x25 kV system minimizes the effect of electromagnetic interference,  Worldwide preferred solution to meet high power requirement for traction purpose and increase in operation of more number of trains in the form of better load factor.
