Walkout over assault on Cong woman

The main Opposition Congress on Thursday staged a walkout in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly over the issue of alleged attempt by a Hindu outfit leader to sexually assault a woman Congress leader.

When the issue was raised by Congress member Ramniwas Rawat during the Zero Hour, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra took objection to mentioning the name of certain people when the matter is under investigation and the offence was not yet proved.

Speaker Sitasharan Sharma directed to expunge the names of the people involved. Several Congress members objected to not recording the matter in the proceedings. However, the Speaker explained that he has only directed for expunging the names and not the matter.

As Sharma did not allow, discussing the matter further stating that the viewpoint of opposition members had come on record, Congress members, who wanted further discussion, staged a walkout.

Some Congress members also created noisy scenes over the alleged extra-marital affair of a senior police official and demanded his suspension with immediate effect.
