Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Motilal Vora vacated his official residence in the 74 Bungalows area on Thursday morning. The house Vora occupied for 35 years was vacated on Thursday within 24 hours after notice was served to him.
“I received a notice from the State Government on Wednesday morning. The letter said I had to vacate the house by September 30 because it has been allotted to a Minister,” Motilal Vora said even as the furniture was being moved out on Thursday morning.
Asked as why the State Government sent him the notice while other former chief ministers still occupied their bungalows, Vora said, “Ask the State government because I have no idea what is going on in their minds.”
Soon after receiving the notice, Vora took the evening flight to Bhopal. He stayed the night at Raj Bhavan and personally came to the bungalow to supervise the evacuation.
Sandwiched between the bungalows allotted to former Chief Minister and veteran BJP leader Kailash Joshi and Minister for Agriculture Gauri Shankar Bisen, B-29 was the most important house on the street in the Eighties. This house practically became the chief minister's official residence for six months in 1985 when Motilal Vora operated from this bungalow. Today, it has a devastated, deserted dilapidated look, badly required a fresh coat of paint.
Vora clarified that he was not annoyed and was happily vacating the house to deposit the key with the PWD department. “Nobody gets attached to a bungalow. I am attached to the people of Bhopal with whom I have been associated with. I have been chief minister and will keep coming and meeting with the people of this city and state,” he said.
