The bear was killed on Thursday night after the forest guard could not spare it from the anger of the villagers and climbed on a tree to save himself from them, forest sources said. On Wednesday, the bear attacked and killed Rai Singh Tomar (22) and injured three others including his uncle Ramchandra, lal Singh and Mohan while they were trying to drive away the animal to save his cow. The injured are undergoing treatment at Bhopal's Hamidia and JP hospitals, and their condition is said to be out of danger.

The villagers in a huge group of about 200 people gathered with sharp-edged weapons and started searching the bear. When the crowd spotted the animal at a pond, they killed it.

Forest department persons who were already busy in a rescue operation for the bear was informed by the guard, but by the time they reached the spot and trapped the bear in a cage, it was killed, Chief Conservator of Forests SS Rajput said.
