The birth anniversary of Milkman Verghese Kurien, who made India the biggest milk producing country in the world, will be observed as National Milk Day on November 26.
MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation is making preparations to celebrate the event throughout the State. Federation has urged people, consumers and milk producers to celebrate National Milk Day to perpetuate memories of Verghese also known as the Milkman of India.
Meetings will be held in about 6000 milk societies, where milk producers and farmers will be apprised of Kurien’s life and works. They will be informed about Anand System for making societies more efficient. Members of milk societies will take pledge for it. Male and female members will be felicitated. Villagers will be apprised of clean milk production, sanitation in village etc and milk producers will be informed about progress of Sanchi products (a brand of Madhya Pradesh State Dairy cooperative Federation limited).
In the urban areas, information about National Milk Day will be displayed at Sanchi parlours/booths so that people become aware of the day and purchase clean and pure milk. Programmes will also be held at MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation and State’s 5 Dairy Federations. Officers and employees will also celebrate Kurien’s birth anniversary.
Notably, Madhya Pradesh is making constant progress in production, collection and marketing of milk. The State registered 27 per cent growth in constitution of milk societies, 35 per cent in milk production, 16 per cent in milk sale, and 17 per cent in the sale of animal feed last year. Presently, about 13 lakh kg milk, is being collected and 7.30 lakh litres is being sold. Efforts are being made to achieve target of milk collection 25 lakh litres per day and sale to the tune of 16 lakh litres per day by year 2018-19.
For establishing Sanchi brand at national and international levels, MP State Cooperative Dairy Federation will make them available in global market. Sanchi is providing gulab-jamun, rasgulla and kaju katli to consumers. A number of other products will also be introduced in future.
