The Bhopalites enjoyed the Monday evening with the enthralling classical performances.

Marking the first day of Ustad Abdul latif Khan Sarangi Festival the Bhopalites witnessed the wonderful evening under the cultural programme. The three day event is jointly being organized by Ustad Abdul latif Khan Trust, Yamini Academy and Dhrupad Sansthan. It is being organized to pay a tribute to Sarangi maestro Ustad Abdul latif Khan.

Here on Monday, the young sensation in Sarangi recital Farooq latif Khan and the table maestro Anindo Chatterjee gave wondrous performances before the theatre buffs of the city. This was followed by the performance by singer Saravani Shinde.

It is to be noted that Abdul latif Khan was an Indian classical musician and instrumentalist, known for his proficiency in Sarangi, a stringed Hindustani classical music instrument.

He was born in a family of musicians in Gwalior in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, learned music under the tutelage of Haider Khan, his grandfather, Chote Khan, his father, Chhote Khan and Uday Khan and Haddu Khan, his uncles, in Khyal Gharana style and mastered the instruments such as Sitar, Santoor and Tabla. later, he learned Sarangi under Bade Ghulam Sabir Khan.

The performances began with the sarangi recital by Farooq latif Khan. Farukh Khan is the only one of Abdul latif Khan's four son's who took up the sarangi after witnessing his father's new-found stardom at the Sarangi Mela of 1989.

Farooq Khan was just a few years older than Abdul latif Khan's grandson Sarwar Hussain. Although he was an idle and distracted youngster, preoccupied with musicianly appearance and not overly concerned with music itself, he has grown into a highly-praised player which is the evidence for the power of ‘music in the blood’.
