What happens when a whole family gets bankrupt and there is nothing to give as a charity evenIJ This was showcased through an Urdu play ‘Tasbeeh’ staged here on Wednesday at Antarang Hall, Bharat Bhavan.

Based on a short story Tasbeeh written by well renowned writer Manzoor Ahtesham, the play was directed by Mangilal Sharma. It was staged by the artists of Rang Sanchar Theatre Group, Bhopal marking the concluding day of the two day theatre fest.

The story revolves around a muslim family. After the sudden demise of the head of the family, they get bankrupt and there was nothing to survive. Not proper shelter, not proper food and not proper cloths, this was the scenario in the family.

All the responsibility comes on the shoulders of the elder son Salim. He tries his level best to earn for his family but difficulties were on his way and in future more were waiting for him.

As the family was facing much crisis Salim starts a furniture business but this also doesn’t worked out well for them. Then the Ramadan starts and the family starves like anything. One day when they sat down for the dinner Salim’s wife fought with him and leaves the house only to go to her parent’s house.  Heartbroken Salim had nothing to do with his life now.

Meanwhile, a fakir baba visits their house for charity. When Salim’s mother asks for money, he denies and says we only do not have a bread to eat. listening to this statement Salim’s mother went to her room and recites tasbih and out of frustration the tasbih automatically breaks. With a view that someday the old traditions and orthodosx society will come to an end, the play concludes.

The Sufiyana Kalam by Dhruv Shukla was presented in the drama form that added much zest leaving the audience mesmerised. The audiences were flown away by the concept as they watched it with rapt attention.
