Following the directives of the Sehore district court, an undertrial prisoner was married in the district jail premises on Tuesday. Advocates and villagers became the guest in the marriage that was solemnised according to Hindu rituals.

This is first such case of marriage of undertrial prisoner. The prisoner, Gauri Shankar (26), was scheduled to marry Sona Singh Keer (18) of Narsinghpur district on February 4, 2014, but during the preparations on February 2, a fight broke out between Gauri Shankar and his neighbour Prabhudas Bairagi. When the decorators where installing stalls for marriage function, Bairagi objected. So Gauri Shankar started quarrelling with him.

The quarrel soon turned physical and was soon joined by family members of the two. After the fight was pacified, Bairagi lodged a complaint with the police and in the complaint he alleged that Gauri Shankar and his father Dal Chand attacked him and severely injured him. After the preliminary investigation the police had registered a case under Section 307 of the IPC.

The court sent the two under judicial custody which posed a problem as the wedding was due within two days. Gauri Shankar’s advocate Vipul Yadav produced the case in the First Class Judicial Magistrate Arun Kumar. After hearing the case the JMFC Arun Kumar ordered the jail superintendent Santosh Sharma to make arrangements of marriage inside the jail premises.
