Following the death of a procreative woman in Katju Hospital in the State Capital, the State Health Department has ordered an inquiry into the incident on Monday. Meanwhile, the hospital management acting on a firsthand report terminated both the duty nurses Deepmala and Hemlata. However, no action has been taken against the doctor, a source said.
Expressing anger over the incident, the Congress party workers protested against the Government in front of hospital on Monday.
The terminated nurse Deepmala, while talking to mediapersons, refuted the charges levelled against her. “I have been made scapegoat in the case. At the time of incidence Dr Nilima Dhawan was also present at the spot but the things worsened due to doctors’ dispute. It is the nurses that carry out the delivery work in the hospital. Senior doctors do not even touch the patients,” Deepmala claimed.
Meanwhile, Medical officer Dr Nilima Dhawan said, “I was on duty in the emergency unit. The duty nurses did not inform me that the condition of the women admitted in maternity ward was worsening… if they (duty nurses) would have told me about this I would have definitely checked the patient personally and if needed, should have called specialist doctor.”
Katju Hospital Superintendent Asha Choudhary said that a three-member team was looking into the matter. Health Department Principal Secretary Gouri Singh has said in the initial investigation carelessness from the side of nurses had been detected.
On the other hand, Health Minister Rustom Singh has ordered an enquiry into the case. This enquiry would be done by Commissioner of Health department Pallavi Gohil.
Notably, the incident took place in Katju Hospital on Sunday at 4 pm. It was alleged that the duty doctors remained sat in the emergency unit while the nurses carried out the delivery of the woman. After twenty minutes of delivery of a boy the woman died. But the nurses reportedly did not inform the duty officer Dr Nilima Dhawan following which the relatives of the deceased created ruckus in the hospital.
