A lady SDM foiled the ferrying of illegal sand and caught hold of the driver of the dumper after giving a chase for several minutes.
A dumper, being operated by the local sand mafia and ferrying illegal sand was intercepted and seized by the Morar SDM Pushpa Pusham on the Delhi- Mumbai highway during the intervening night of Friday- Saturday .
Illegal sand mining has been a profitable business for the mafias in the Gwalior Chambal division for many years because of the boom in the realty sector. However in recent months the administration and the police have been cracking down on the mafia.
Earlier, acting on a tip- off about transportation of illegal sand, District Collector Anurag Chaudhary had instructed the Morar SDM Pushpa Pusham to investigate and take appropriate action.
On Friday night the SDM led a team consisting of two patwaries and police personnel to the Hajira area. On seeing a dumper speeding towards Morena, the team signaled the driver to stop it. However the driver instead of stopping the vehicle sped away towards the Delhi- Mumbai Highway.
The SDM and the team chased the dumper. After a chase that lasted several minutes, the team intercepted the dumper under a Railway Bridge on the highway. In a sheer display of bravery the SDM overtook the dumper and stopped her vehicle in front of the dumper. The driver tried to ram the SDM’s vehicle in his bid to escape but was caught before he could get away. Police arrested the driver and FIRs have been lodged against the owner of the dumper and a few others under respective sections of the IPC.
