Three short plays wooed the theatre buffs of the city. A one-day theatre fest ‘Triveni’ was held at Shaheed Bhavan Auditorium on Monday. Under the festival three short plays were beautifully presented.
The plays included, ‘Jab main cheekh rahi thi’, ‘Hawalat’ and ‘Teen Apahij’. The plays were directed by Shubham Upadhyay and were beautifully presented by the artists of Samantar Theatre Troupe, Bhopal.
The series of plays began with Jab Main Cheekh Rahi thi as Purv Rang of Triveni. The play was a solo act and was brilliantly performed on stage. Showcasing the various perceptions created by society about women. The issues like female infanticide, child marriage, dowry, domestic violence and other crimes against women were brilliantly portrayed through this solo act.
The artist managed to let the audience watch the show with rapt attention.
Next presentation was Hawalaat. Written by a noted Hindi poet Sarveshwar Dayal Saxena, the play ‘Hawalaat’ focuses upon the lifestyle the people have adopted after India got independence. The play is a satire on society and difference in the living standard of the people.
The story of the play surrounds four characters which includes three teenage boys of low caste and a police constable. The boys are unemployed and to have food and shelter they ask the police constable to arrest them. The constable however cannot arrest them as they have not committed any crime.
The play begin with a strong narration depicting the lifestyle people followed before the Britishers came to India followed by the British era and then it totally focused upon the present situation of the society.
It is to be noted that after the independence people have divided the society into three categories, high class, middle class and low class. This categorization has created a boundary between humanity and peace. This play somewhere gives out a message to the society that nothing is bigger than humanity.
The last play was Teen Apahij which was all about the biggest enemies of an individual’s life. The play talked about lethargy, sluggish lifestyle and recklessness.
