Tribal hostel students forced to beg for collecting ration from local residents

The students of Pre-Matric tribal hostel in Shivpuri district, were forced to beg for collecting ration from the local residents to have their meals.

The kitchen in the hostel was closed down all of a sudden by the employees saying they have exhausted the ration. On this, the students had to come out of the hostel and reach the residents seeking ration. After collecting the ration, they handed over to the employees and then they could get meals.

The incident was reported around 17 kms from the district headquarters. The incident took place, when local parliamentarian Jyotiraditya Scindia and Minister in-charge of the district Rustam Singh were in Shivpuri.

After the incident came to fore, the authorities have sacked hostel superintendent.

The hostel is situated on Jhansi road and the children of Sahariya tribe from the nearby villages reside there. For quite some time, the hostel superintendent has gone to his native village and there is nobody to take care of the students.

The situation became pathetic for past three days, when the ration including flour, vegetables and pulses got exhausted. On Friday afternoon, when the students returned from school, found that there was no arrangement for meals, but the cook told that the superintendent has still not returned and there is no ration.

On this, the students went to the nearby highway and begged ration from nearby shops. As they reached a hotel on the highway, hotel owner Mukesh Rathore enquired about the reason and knowing the facts, he provided meals to them. The students were also provided with ration for the night meals.

Somehow, the information reached convenor of the Tribal Welfare department Shivangi Chaturvedi and she took stock of the situation by reaching the hotel. She later briefed media persons about the situation. An investigation in the incident has been initiated and if the superintendent is found guilty, a criminal case would be registered against him, she added.
