With an aim to provide quick assistance to mishap victims, an Accident Response System will soon be implemented in Madhya Pradesh. Under the system, a trial run began on Friday. The system is based on modern technology to provide quick relief and also for restoration of road traffic. Toll plazas situated on major roads will be associated with the emergency service to provide assistance to the people.A centralised control room will be set up at Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation’s (MPRDC) Arera Hills headquarters for the purpose. The scheme will be implemented in three phases on all national and state roads coming under MPRDC.

MPRDC will set up the Accident Response System and Traffic Management System initially for five years under which ambulances equipped with GPS would reach the accident site with the help of input from call centre, it added. Accident response system is being introduced for quick assistance in case of accident on highways in the state. On implementation of the accident response system based on state-of-the art technique, not only the affected persons will get early assistance, but also traffic will resume at the earliest at the accident site. The road emergency services will be put into practice by linking main roads with toll plazas.

The project will be implemented on all national highways, state highways and major roads under the corporation measuring about 20 thousand kilometers. The project costing about Rs11.5 crore will be implemented in 3 phases. The corporation has chalked out a plan for setting up accident response system, traffic management centre and their operation and maintenance for 5 years.
