Around 93 lakh commercial vehicles across the country would halt indefinitely demanding toll barrier free transport, regulation of fuel prices quarterly and others from July 20.

Other demands included transparency in third party insurance, removal of TDS over transport business and National permit for buses and tourist vehicles.

While talking to media persons here on Sunday, former President of All India Motor Transport Congress Bal Malkeet Singh said that at a meeting held on May 17, 2018 in Delhi by All India Motor Transport Congress decision was taken for country wide strike of transporters in the wake of negligent attitude of the government towards transporters which has left with no option but to go for indefinite strike.

He further added that government collects Rs 20000 from toll plazas but the transporters loss Rs 1.47 lakh crore in the process which could be saved if the toll barrier free scheme is implemented in a better way.

The excise duties have been raised 12 times and fuel rates which tanked were not passed to the consumers. Government collects Rs  8 per litre at development charge but still the situation remains the same.

On third party insurance 18 percent GST and 15 percent commission is charged which should be removed. Small transporters find it hard to pay Income Tax on every ton of goods transport.

President of Bhopal Truck Transport Sangharsh Samiti Harish Dawar said that government has been approached with difficulties faced by transporters and assurances have been provided every time but execution to solve the issues remain problem.
