The department Urology has started Transperineal biopsy of the prostate, which increases the cancer detection rates while reducing the rates of infections and other complications. Dr Kumar Madhavan has been trained in this technique at King's College Hospitals, London and this is the first hospital in Madhya Pradesh to offer this service. The highly advanced equipment was inaugurated by the Executive Director Prof(Dr) Ajai Singh.
Dr Devashish Kaushal, in-charge, Department of Urology said the Department of Urology under the visionary leadership of Dr Ajai Singh, is revolutionizing urological services by offering advanced diagnostic modalities for prostate cancer . He explains that Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men worldwide and its incidence in India is increasing rapidly. Being a disease of old age, the disease burden of prostate cancer in the country is expected to grow as our population ages. However the disease has an excellent prognosis if diagnosed early. The early symptoms of prostate cancer include blood in urine, increased frequency of urination, straining at urination and poor stream of urine. Men over the age of 45 should contact a urologist at the earliest if they observe any of these symptoms. The Department of urology has a special clinic for urologic cancers, which is run at 2pm every Thursday.
The department has also started offering high powered laser treatment for urinary stones and prostate. A high-powered laser allows stones to be managed without any cuts in the body. This is especially advantageous in children, who have smaller organs and a laser can render them stone free with minimal complications using advanced techniques such as mini PCNL and RIRS.
The Department of Urology at AIIMS Bhopal continues to push boundaries and redefine urological treatments. Their state-of-the-art procedures, exclusive offerings, and patient-centric approach solidify their position as a region's premier center for advanced urological care.
