Transparency International urges Modi to direct MP Govt to order CBI probe into Vyapam scam

Transparency International India has requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and advise the Government of Madhya Pradesh to hand over the investigation of the VYAPAM scam to the CBI and restore faith in the criminal justice system.
TII in a statement here on Monday said that it also extends its support to its Board Member Ajay Dubey who has been fighting since long time for victims of “Vyapam” scam in MP.
Transparency International India is accredited national chapter of Transparency International, which has turned fight against corruption as a international movement.
TII further said in its statement that it is disturbed at the series of deaths in the Vyapam scam and demands investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
TII also feels that the investigation must monitored by Supreme Court. It is unusual that forty six persons have lost their life. The state government has been ineffective in protecting life of whistleblowers and those connected with enquiry. Prima face the crime is of interstate level and proper investigation can only happen if the case is investigated by a central agency.
The scam apparently involves collusion between politicians, public officials and middlemen, who have recklessly played with future of deserving candidates by selling seats of various professional colleges and rigging recruitment to various Government posts.
It is regrettable that in none of the deaths have the local police been able to make any breakthrough and find any link between all those who have died. The death of so many persons, linked with the scam, cannot be coincidental, as claimed by the sate government, nor can many of these cases be attributed to natural causes. The conspiracy needs unraveling if trust in the rule of law is to be maintained.
