Imagine a world where transplant patients do not have to wait for years for the perfect donor. Imagine a world where disease detection can happen within minutes at limited resource settings. Imagine a world where cancer treatment can be administered following profiling of patient's body fluids! With the advancements in medical sciences, there has been a paradigm shift in the to develop novel "precision medicine" -based biomedical solutions to cater to the unmet clinical needs! With these mandates, the Department of Translational Medicine was established in March 2021 and the department celebrated its foundation day on 6th March 2023.
A short video highlighting the journey of the Department since its inception was showcased and the output in form of extramural research grants and research publications was well appreciated by the and Dean (Research), Prof. Debasis Biswas and Dean (Academics), Prof. Rajesh Malik. The multi-disciplinary faculty strength was further recognized in the address by Prof. Biswas. Hon'ble Director Sir congratulated the Department and appreciated the event. He emphasized that the faculty of such a department should not work in silos and continue to collaborate with the clinical department for actual translational output. He further mentioned that research should not restricted to a laboratory rather reach the local resource settings for disease prevention, besides improved disease diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics. He also apprised the audience regarding the need and importance of Centre of Precision Medicine at a medical institute like AIIMS Bhopal.
The Department of Translational Medicine also organized a lecture series by the eminent and distinguished scientist, Prof. Mahadev Rao as a part of the Foundation Day Celebration. Prof. Rao provided an overview of precision medicine and his experience in the field. The presentation was well appreciated and was followed by a series of brain-storming question-answer session from the faculty and students.
As a part of Foundation Day ceremony, the Department organized poster competition at AIIMS Bhopal with the theme of Translational Medicine. Nursing and M.Sc. students bagged the first three positions and were awarded with mementos and certificates of appreciation.
