Train accident averted at Bhopal station

An accident was averted when a south-bound train was prevented from passing over a fractured railway track at Bhopal station on Sunday. Vigilant railway officials alerted the driver about the fracture, who brought the train to halt. Around 11 am on Sunday morning, Hyderabad bound Dakshin Express was to arrive at platform number 1 of Bhopal railway station.

While the train was slowing down to halt at the platform, a railway employee Rajiv Chauhan noticed a minor fracture on the track in front of refreshment room. Thereafter, he raised an alarm and other officials alerted driver and guard through walkie-talkie. By then, two coaches had already passed over the fractured track. Once driver received the information over walkie-talkie, he applied emergency brakes after which the train came to a halt. No one was reportedly hurt.

Railway officials rushed to the spot and got down to mend track, which took around an hour. Traffic restored to normal on the track soon after. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (sr DCM) Brijendra Kumar said, "It was a minor track fracture that couldn't have resulted in any major accident. Also, the train speed was very slow. Fracture could be a result of contraction and expansion during extreme day and night temperatures these days."
