The police officials posted in Traffic would soon be seen on the roads, imposing fines with card swiping machines, commonly known as hand-held devices.
Official sources said that tenders regarding purchase of such machines in bulk have been placed. Till date, the cops have been dealing in cash only by imposing fines on the vehicle riders and drivers for violating traffic rules.
This would be for the first time that such card swiping machines would be seen in the hands of the cops.
The vehicle owners would also get a printed slip against the fines paid to the traffic police. By swiping the card, the fine amount would be deducted directly from the bank account of the vehicle owner. There have been instances that the vehicle owners who were caught violating traffic rules, told cops that they were not in possession of cash and thus they cannot pay the fine. In such a situation, the cops had to wait for some relatives to reach with the fine amount or the rules violators were allowed to go.
After the hand-held device would be made available to the cops, nobody would be spared in want of cash.
The police officials have also cleared that as per the rules, now the driving license of the vehicle owners who violate traffic rules for a number of times would be cancelled.
The police officials would recommend in this regard to the Transport department and subsequently, the driving licenses of such rules violators would be cancelled.
