Tradition of touching feet should be ended, says Nagendra Singh

The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Khajuraho parliamentary constituency and Madhya Pradesh's ex-Minister Nagendra Singh on Monday said he considers the salutation of touching feet as improper in public life and the tradition should be ended. “All of us repose faith in the democratic system and are constantly working in the direction of strengthening it. In such situations, there is little need for this salutation especially in politics.

I have always discouraged touching of feet,” he told after submitting his nomination papers at the District Returning Office here. A query was posed to Singh after his statement, regarding a tendency to advance in politics through such salutations to leaders, appeared on television news channels. “In today's era, even society's dalits and other backward persons are not required to touch anyone's feet. Equal opportunities for progress are available and every citizen should advance utilising his or her own talent," felt the leader who is in an eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation with Congress nominee Raja Pateria. Khajuraho constituency is spread over Panna, Chhatarpur and Katni districts.
