Madhya Pradesh Government which apparently is one of the leading states of the country enacting legislation against the GST, is apparently finding itself on the back seat and facing stiff resistance from the business organisations ahead of the implementation of the GST from July 1 next month.
Business organisations' ire over the GST became quite palpable here on Wednesday when the State Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya in an attempt to rope in support of business organisations over the GST had to face stiff protest and resistance from them.
While meeting Malaiya at the Residency Kothi, representatives of various business organisations including the Ahilya Chamber of Commerce shared their deep concerns over the anomalies in GST tax rates and provisions surrounding GST. Reeling out their anger, the business representatives threatened to shut down their business if attempts were made to force the GST on them. The business and trading organisations of the city have given a call of day long bandh against the GST on June 16.
Meanwhile, taking due cognisance of the business representatives' concerns, Malaiya assured them that the State Government will put forth grievances and concern over the GST raised by representatives of various business organisations of the city in the next meeting of the GST Council scheduled to take place in New Delhi on June 18 this month, said Madhya Pradesh Finance and district incharge minister Jayant Mallaiya while talking to delegations of the various business organisations at the Residency Kothi here on Wednesday.
After listening to the grievances and concerned raised by the representatives of business organisations on the GST provisions, the Minister assured them that the State Government the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan himself have taken due cognisance of their concern over the GST provisions and accordingly will table all their concerns in the GST Council meet so as to settle their concerns and allay their apprehensions over the GST.
