Ever since Mahakal Lok was built in Ujjain, the number of devotees has increased manifold. A large number of tourists are reaching to see the entire corridor along with visiting Mahakaleshwar. In view of the convenience of the devotees coming to the city, there has been a demand for a long time to build an airport, on this a big decision has been taken in the budget.

It has been said in the budget to convert the Datana Matana airstrip into an airport. If everything goes well, then soon an airport will be ready in the religious city of Ujjain.

It has been proposed in the budget that industrial and religious tourism can be promoted in Madhya Pradesh. For this, the airstrip of Ujjain will be converted into an airport. Ever since the work of expansion of Mahakal temple has started, talks are being held about the need of an airport in the coming times.

Presently, pilgrims have to land at Indore airport and travel by road to Ujjain covering a distance of 55 kms. Emphasis is being laid on building an airport so that the devotees can get rid of this problem. When Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reached Ujjain to attend the royal procession of Mahakaleshwar, he also said that the airport would be constructed soon.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who reached Delhi after joining the royal ride, started the exercise of preparing a report on this. While writing a letter to the Chief Minister, he had said that Rs 200 crore would be spent on the expansion of the airport.

A survey was also done by the Airport Authority of India in this regard and the Chief Minister was requested to personally intervene. Notably, there is an airstrip in Ujjain and if it is given the shape of an airport, then 252 acres of land will be required and it will cost 200 crores to build the airport.

At present only small planes and helicopters can land on the Datana Matana airstrip built on Dewas Road. The land of the airstrip is 95 acres and the runway here can be operated for training aircraft but it is not suitable for landing of flight.

While giving a gift to the people of Madhya Pradesh, the Shivraj government has announced in the current budget to build an airport in Ujjain.
