The massive target of inducting members into the party has puzzled the BJP leaders and thus they remained absent from an important meeting convened at the BSS College here on Saturday.
The meeting of frontal organisations including all the morchas was convened here in connection with mobilising them towards the membership drive. At a meeting held at the State BJP headquarters on Friday, every office-bearer of the morchas was asked to recruit 1,100 members.
Saturday’s meeting was convened as a follow-up of Friday’s decision. There are 30 morchas of the saffron party and over all, there are 1,734 office-bearers. Besides, ensuring their presence at the meeting, they were also asked to bring party workers. It was expected that more than 2,000 party workers and leaders would attend the meeting and thus the venue was kept at the BSS College.
However, at the beginning of the programme, there were only 200 party workers and thereafter, the strength reached to only 500. Party sources claim that only 1,200 chairs were brought at the venue and more than half of them were vacant.
After the programme concluded, State BJP organisational general secretary Arvind Menon took the issue of thin presence into account and personally collected the details of the absentees by talking to the morcha presidents. Sources claimed that those who remained absent at the meeting have been summoned to the party headquarters. When the party leaders enquired about this, it was found that a letter was sent to the office-bearers that did not reach them. Moreover, they did not receive any telephone call from the party office, in this regard.
