Purushottam Totlani, who is accused of sending money through hawala to Managing Director of Syndicate Bank SK Jain, surrendered in a Delhi court on Wednesday.

After he surrendered before the Patiala House court, he was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for two days custody. It is believed that by interrogating Totlani, the CBI may unearth major network of hawala business in Madhya Pradesh and other parts of the country.Notably, on August 1, the CBI had arrested advocate and then Congress leader Vineet Godha and his brother Puneet Godha with Rs50 lakh cash. They were about to hand over the cash to their brother-in-law SK Jain of the Syndicate bank.

During investigation, it was found that the deal was finalised through Totlani and he had handed over cash to Godha brothers for sending to SK Jain.On the same day, the CBI had searched the house of Totlani in Idgah Hills locality. The Bureau officials had found several documents suggesting that Totlani was involved in hawala transactions for long.

Since then he was absconding. The local police had also been searching for him and raided several places, but he remain elusive.

Police sources claimed that only a few years ago, Totlani was owner of a small sweet shop in the Bairagarh township, but he emerged as rich man within just six years. Besides hawala business, Totlani is also engaged in real estate business in the township, police officials said.
