Finally, three days after the gang rape of a teenage girl, the State Government cracked the whip on the senior police officials on Sunday.
IG Bhopal Yogesh Choudhary and SP Rail Anita Malviya have been transferred to the police headquarters (PHQ).
The way a delay of 24 hours was witnessed in registering FIR in the gang rape case, prima facie it was believed that the police were not functioning as per the rules. Thus, the Government assessed that IG Bhopal should be removed and he has been replaced by Jaideep Prasad.
On the other hand, Malviya was found guilty of not taking the incident seriously. Only on Saturday her video went viral on social media, in which she was seen laughing over the incident. She has been attached to the PHQ, while Ruchi Vardhan Mishr would replace her.
Besides, eight other IPS officers have also been transferred. They include: Addl DG Homes Guards VK Singh to Police Housing Corporation as Chairman, Addl DG Training Mahan Bharat Sagar to Home Guards in the same ranking, Addl DG Selection and Recruitment Pragya Richa to AJK, Addl DG Vigilance D Srivivas Rao to EOW and IG SAF Anant Kumar Singh as IG Jabalpur zone.
In connection with the gang rape case, the State Government had on Friday suspended three SHOs and two sub-inspectors finding them prima facie accountable for violating the standard operating procedure.
However, the senior police officers are still out to safeguard the guilty cops, who had declined to register FIR on the complaint of the rape victim. There are clear guidelines by the Supreme Court that FIR should be registered at the police station where the victim reaches, no matter whether the scene of crime falls under the police station jurisdiction.
The police officials at three police stations had declined to help claiming that the scene of crime did not fall in their jurisdiction, despite the fact that both the parents of the victim are in police.
