Tomar raps party office-bearers for releasing list of seat in charge

The list of Assembly constituency in-charge declared by State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 12, led to a major embarrassment for the party leaders, during a meeting held at the State BJP headquarters on Friday.

Since, the list was released to media persons without the knowledge of State President Narendra Singh Tomar, he pulled the office bearers over the issue.

Outraged by the lapse, Tomar took to task party functionaries responsible for this omission and he also clarified that the list released on June 12 was about those who have been made in-charge of party programmes in Assembly constituencies only till July 6. He said that the party will announce names of Assembly in-charge later.

Notably, when the list was released earlier, it was told by the party functionaries that Tomar himself and BJP State Organisational General Secretary Arvind Menon had appointed the in-charge. This had created confusion, because there were several leaders in the list who has been aspiring party ticket in the elections.

However, on Friday, Tomar expressed complete ignorance about the list. He clarified that the term ‘assembly constituency in-charge’ was printed by mistake instead of in-charge of programmes in assembly constituency from June 27 to July 6. “The party will organise conventions of party workers in towns and villages in all Assembly seats from June 23. The in-charge have been appointed for these conventions only,” he said.

It is said that several people of unknown credibility were included in it. Moreover, in the assembly seat of former chief minister Uma Bharati, a leader, who is known opponent of the leader was named as in-charge. Besides, several of the appointees are identified as ticket-seekers.

Finally, the party found a way out of it before the matter could lead to a major show-off within party rank and file which it could not afford in election year. The Assembly constituency in-charges have now become programme in-charges who will be relieved of their post on July 7.

Meanwhile, the party had another meeting of state-level office bearers, district

presidents, general secretaries and functionaries appointed for assembly constituencies on Friday. It turned up as a usual meeting where the leaders repeated the same stuff about electoral preparedness they have been saying for long now.
