The tiger injured by poachers in the forests of Betul recently succumbed to bullet injuries here on Friday night.
A tiger injured by poachers has succumbed to bullet injuries during treatment at Van Vihar National Park cum Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre here. Park director Sameeta Rajora while talking to The Pioneer said, “The animal around three and half years of age died late last night.”
It was brought from Rathipur forests in Betul district in a critical state to Van Vihar, that also enjoys the status of a National Park on April 8, she added.
The tiger was operated upon and treated but it could not be saved, the director said. Two bullets that hit the tiger on its rear side had paralyzed the animal, she added.
The post-mortem was conducted according to the guidelines laid down by the National Tiger Conservation Authority’s (NTCA) and the body has been disposed of, the park director said.
Five persons allegedly involved in injuring the tiger have been already arrested in Betul, Rajora said.

After local villagers informed forest officials, the tiger was rescued by a team from Satpura tiger reserve and shifted here on April 8 to Van Vihar National Park which has a well-equipped wildlife rescue centre. An x-ray revealed a bullet in its abdomen which was surgically removed on April 10.
