An adult tiger was electrocuted to death in the jungles of Chitrakoot in Satna district late on Sunday night.

The incident was reported from Amirati beat of Majhgawan range in Chitrakoot area where the body of the big cat was found this morning. The big cat perhaps died late night and the body was spotted by locals in the morning and they intimated the forest department officers.

Forest department sources claimed that the big cat could be a native of Panna tiger reserve, which falls nearby, but the forest department declined to confirm this in initial probe. A senior officer from PTR claimed that the tiger has been electrocuted to death by suspected poachers close to a pond. The officer said the tigress P-213 of PTR had shifted base to Chitrakoot area in the past and had given birth to two cubs which are now adults.

Efforts are on to identify the deceased big cat and it was difficult to say from where the dead feline belonged to, claimed the officer. The incident perhaps took place late night.

The forest officers of the region had rushed to the spot after the deadbody of the big cat was spotted this morning.

Sources said that the poachers had laid the electricity wire trap close to a small pond in the forest nursery based nearby Sarbhanga Ashram.

As the big cat would have approached the pond to quench his thirst late night, it met a painful death, claimed locals. Some suspects have been detained by the police and are being questioned over the death of the tiger.
